Information Technology Assistant, Nairobi

Responsibilities/duties:

1.Provide full range of technical assistance to the Division in the use of software, formatting documents in MS-Word and Excel, Computer Aided Translation Tools, recovery of information in case of problems, restoration of damaged files, security procedures, backup procedures etc.; a).Undertake the installation, configuration, testing and deployment of server hardware and software including Operating Systems Unix, Linux, Database systems and security software;b). Ensure full-time operations and monitoring of assigned systems; implement backups of servers following standard backup procedures.

2.Liaise with hardware and software support staff from local computer vendors on installation and maintenance of computer equipment and troubleshooting:a).Facilitate software and hardware installation of new computers equipment;b).Facilitate troubleshoot/repair malfunctioning hardware;c).Update and maintain inventory database systems reports;d).Keeps track of all computer and printer movement that are at UNON/DCS division;e).Maintain UNON/DCS/IT unit, stock of all computers equipment, accessories, software statistics of usage;f)Create yearly hardware and software plan for UNON/DCS/IT Unit ensuring that all needs are accurately reflected.

3.Provide assistance and guidance to users in the Standard PC application software:a)Assist users in trouble shooting standard application software;b)Respond to help desk calls and set guidelines and principles for problem reporting, resolution and follow- up;c)Facilitate Local Area Network and Wide Area Network access for all staff members at UNON/DCS.

4. Perform any other related assignment as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Completion of secondary education is required. Supplemental training in Computer training or Computer Science or other related field is desirable.

Work Experience
Six years of relevant and progressive responsible experience in Information Technology field specifically system administration and PC application is required. Experience in web-development technologies (AJAX, Dreamweaver, Flash, etc), UNIX and scripting is highly desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariant. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of other United Nations languges is desirable.
