Support to the Health Sector is one of the priorities of the German Development Cooperation (GDC) in Kenya, with an overall objective that “Access to good and affordable health care, particularly in reproductive health is improved.”

The German support consists of technical support as well as financial contributions, through the German International Cooperation (GIZ). The GIZ (Previously GTZ) Health Sector Programme has four components: Reproductive Health, Health Financing, Health Policy and Gender-Based Violence.

The GIZ Health Sector Programme hereby seeks to recruit an intern in the communications department to support ongoing activities.

Responsibilities/Tasks
Support to Communication
The intern works closely with the communication officer and will be required to:
* Provide support concerning managing the publication of a Gender Based Violence (GBV) book;
* Provide support towards managing IEC/BCC activities with various partner organizations like GALCK;
* Work with the communication officer in producing short videos and audios for internet publishing
* Assist in quality assurance and editorial responsibility for the programmes and partners relevant internet products
* Participate in and facilitate trainings and workshops as appropriate
* Assist in production of public relation materials like brochures and leaflets
* Assist with planning, publicizing and carrying out special events for the programme and partner organizations
* Monitoring of the various communication projects
* Assists in and/or carries out other communication related activities and other tasks, as assigned by the communications officer.

Required Entry Qualifications and Competencies
Formal Education
* B.A degree required in any discipline, preferably, English, Journalism, marketing or communication

Other Qualifications
* Working knowledge of modern telecommunication systems (telephone, fax, e-mail, internet and its software)
* Working knowledge of computer programs (e.g. MSOffice)
* Language skills

CARE Kenya - Logistics Officers

Assistant Logistics Officer - Storekeeper
Reporting to the Logistics Officer, the Assistant Logistics Officer-Storekeeper is responsible for coordination of project warehouse operations activities including issuance and receiving, coordinating stock movement, documenting warehouse transactions, maintaining stores records, and overseeing storage of surplus property for the project. The post holder is expected to take part in routine distribution of food and non food items to the refugees.

Key duties and responsibilities for this position include;

  • Overseeing the daily operations of the projects warehouse(s) and stock(s) i.e. receipts and issuance while maintaining up-to-date records.
  • Receiving and inspecting all incoming materials and reconciles with purchase orders; processes and distributes documentation with purchase orders; reports, documents and tracks damages and discrepancies on orders received.
  • The incumbent will on a regular basis, advice Logistics Officer on warehouse delivery and intra- and inter-camp issuance of requested surplus project materials. You will be responsible for maintaining accuracy of stores records.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
  • Diploma in computer studies/ Purchasing and supplies Management/ Logistics Management.
  • Two years working experience with a reputable organization in a similar capacity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Knowledge of food distribution and None Food items procedures in emergency programmed implementation will be crucial.
  • Good leadership, problem solving, organizational and planning skills.

Assistant Logistics Officer - Distribution Monitor

Reporting to the Logistics Officer, the Assistant Logistics officer - Distribution Monitor is responsible for handling and proper accountability of all humanitarian aid (Food and Non Food Items) issued to the beneficiaries. The post holder is expected to take part in routine distribution of food and non food items activities including; receiving of food into Food Distribution Point (FDP), issuing of food rations to beneficiaries at 100% accuracy of measure, documentation of distribution corridor transactions, maintaining corridor records, and overseeing cleanliness within distribution arena, among others.

Key duties and responsibilities:
  • Receiving of food commodities and Non Food Items (NFIs) into Food Distribution Point (FDP), while conducting 10% random weighing so as to ascertain the right unit weight of food received,
  • Distributing food and non food items to the respective targeted refugee population as per approved ration scale provided by the donors (WFP and UNHCR),
  • Conducting regular stock count of commodities or items under distribution at the course of distribution exercise,
  • Preparation of precise, accurate and analytical General Food Distribution (GFD) reports and supervision of various staff working in the distribution sheds.

CARE Kenya - Deputy Logistics Coordinator

Deputy Logistics Coordinator

The Deputy Logistics Coordinator has overall supervision of camp activities including distribution of Food and None Food Items (NFI) and Warehousing practices. He/ she, has the mandate of sector staff supervision. The holder of this position works with the refugee community to ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs') for General Food Distribution are well understood by all stakeholders including beneficiaries. You will ensure that the Food and NFI items are distributed in an orderly, safe and equitable way.

Key duties and responsibilities for this position include;

  • Overseeing of General Food and NFIs' distribution activities in the refugee camps, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of Logistics services (Warehousing transactions) within CARE Kenya in Dadaab;
  • Enforcing Logistics Standard Operating Procedures and practices, preparation of various Donor reports in a timely manner as per the donor reporting guidelines.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for staff management in the Logistics sector including conducting Annual Performance Appraisal of sector staff as per Organizational policies and designing or identifying appropriate staff development interventions.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics Management, or Purchasing and Supply Management or Business Administration.
  • Holders of Diploma in these areas may be considered depending on their experience and length of service in similar positions.
  • Five years experience in a busy Logistics office preferably with an international NGO and a good working knowledge of Logistics procedures, systems and donor (WFP, UNHCR) reporting requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.

CARE Kenya - Monitoring and Evaluation Officer


1. Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Reporting to the Program Quality and Learning Manager, the M&E officer is responsible for monitoring the progress of implementation compared to (costed) work plans and impact indicators and its documentation. She/he is also responsible for preparing of project progress reports of high quality in line with World Food Programme procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities for this position include:
  • Developing tools that will facilitate data collection on the quantitative progress of the project and the qualitative achievement of indicators, participate in Post Distribution Monitoring activity on a monthly basis in close collaboration with WFP and other partners.
  • The holder of this position will contribute to the enhanced monitoring process and documentation as well as sharing of lessons learnt and best practices with CARE Food Security and Logistics Staff, Education staff and partners.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for building the capacity of refugee leaders in monitoring of food assistance programme and encouraging them to give regular feedback to the community leaders on programme performance.
  • He/she will collaborate with WFP and other partners in ensuring that women participation in food assistance programme is enhanced and proper mechanisms are put in place for addressing Sex and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) as well as Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) issues.
  • Will be responsible for gathering data, consolidation of donor reports for submission in accordance to the deadlines provided.
  • Actively contribute to the development of fundraising proposals in line with overall CARE and WFP strategy.
  • Maintain regular contact with programme sections of CARE and WFP in order to ensure an updated and comprehensive knowledge base on Food Security programmes for use in material development.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences or development studies.
  • Knowledge of M & E in title II for assistance programmes will be an added advantage.
  • Three years experience in performing monitoring and evaluation responsibilities
  • Demonstrable experience in program design and implementation with an international humanitarian agency.
  • Ability to work in multicultural setting and with minimum supervision is desirable.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in utilization of data analysis and management software.
  • Very Good report writing and communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft suite.
